Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) aims to enable you to optimise production assets to deliver zero breakdowns, zero defects and zero accidents. TPM was developed by the Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance beginning in 1971 and has been continually refined since. Although originally developed in the automotive industry, TPM has spread to encompass a wide variety of industries in both the engineering and process sectors and the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) measure has become the de facto standard for equipment performance. TPM has found particularly strong application in the process sector where equipment reliability and capability is so important.
TPM is a structured approach to deploy an integrated set of tools and techniques in order to eliminate losses across an organisation and throughout the value stream. Whether you want to apply TPM as a complete strategy to eliminate losses across your manufacturing operations or as as a tool to resolve a specific challenge, we can help you engage the capabilities of your workforce to ensure effective and sustainable improvements are implemented.
JIPM has appointed Industry Forum as a certified TPM consultancy organisation and we offer practical training workshops which enable your shopfloor teams to implement TPM on their equipment. We also provide ongoing coaching and consultancy to ensure successful implementation and help you deliver focused improvement projects that enable you to address major losses through structured cross-functional teamwork.
A key activity in TPM is the elimination of forced deterioration of equipment, deterioration stemming from poor maintenance or operations practices which are the source of many equipment problems.
TPM does this through engaging autonomous teams of production personnel in managing their own equipment with the support of maintenance professionals. The engagement of shop floor teams is the defining characteristic of the TPM approach.
The Industry Forum approach is based on the 8 Pillars and the 12 Step Deployment Model, aligned to the JIPM awards.
The mission of each pillar is to reduce loss with the ultimate aim of elimination of all losses. We coach teams to develop their own solutions with guidance where appropriate. This develops the understanding and ownership of the improvement solutions.
Alongside our consultancy services, Industry Forum runs a number of training courses specifically aimed at improving manufacturing skills, you can see the full list of courses on our training page.
The following workshops are designed for manufacturers who wish to understand more about the principles of TPM and how it can be applied to their manufacturing operations, either specifically related to the IATF 16949 Automotive Quality Management Standard or to industry in general. We also run a one day workshop for those who wish to understand how to develop a strategy for the implementation of Autonomous Maintenance.
TPM for IATF16949 (1 day course)
Introduction to TPM (1 day course)
Implementing Autonomous Maintenance (1 day course)
