Description

AIAG & VDA Design FMEA: Transitioning for Practitioners is designed to take delegates through the 7 Step Approach to the construction, scoring and evaluation of risk (high, medium, low) and explain how to fully implement the new AIAG/VDA approach.

The intent is to provide a common foundation for FMEA across the breadth of the automotive industry. While every effort has been made to reach a consensus, it may be necessary to refer to the individual publications or Customer Specific Requirements.

The FMEA method is used to address the technical aspect of risk reduction. FMEA is a team-orientated, systematic, qualitative method intended to:

Evaluate the potential technical risk of failure of the product:

  • Analyse the causes and effects of those failures
  • Document preventive and detection actions
  • Recommend actions to reduce the risk

The FMEA is used for analysing the technical risk to reduce failures and improve safety in the product.

Who should attend?

This course is designed for Product or Design Engineers, NPI teams, Internal Auditors and others who are involved in the implementation or auditing of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis. It is not a requirement to have an understanding of AIAG FMEA 4th edition.

Course Outline

Topics Covered

  • 7 Step Approach
  • Overview of the FMEA process
  • General review of FMEA principles
  • Design FMEA including start points
  • FMEA ranking tables and scoring
  • Action Priority
  • Resulting Documentation

Benefits and Learning Objectives

FMEA is used to support the introduction of new products and processes, as well as support changes to existing products and processes.

It is often mandated by automotive, aerospace and other engineering primary manufacturers, as a specific requirement to support the goal of defect prevention and the reduction of variation and waste.

Companies that apply FMEA successfully see improved product conformity, better on-time delivery performance and a reduction in the cost of non-quality.

Delegates will gain an understanding of the new step by step approach to FMEA and the changes between the current and new approaches to FMEA, including the new combined approach to creation, scoring and risk evaluation and resulting documentation and learn how to create and fully implement the approach.

Certification

Upon completion of the course you will receive an Industry Forum certificate of attendance.
